Agartala, October 16, 2025: Three suspected Bangladeshi nationals were killed in a mob attack on Wednesday afternoon in the border-adjacent Bidyabil village under Champahour police station of Khowai district, after they allegedly attempted to steal cattle.
According to Officer-in-Charge of Champahour Police Station, Dilip Debbarma, the incident took place when a group of suspected intruders from Bangladesh reportedly entered Bidyabil village to steal cattle. “On being noticed, villagers tried to resist them, following which the intruders attacked locals with sharp weapons, injuring two persons. The injured were later referred to GBP Hospital in Agartala in critical condition,” the officer said.
Enraged by the attack, villagers reportedly retaliated, surrounding the alleged cattle thieves and assaulting them, leading to their deaths on the spot. Police later recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination.
The incident has triggered tension in the border area, with locals expressing anger over what they described as lapses in border surveillance. Residents alleged that inadequate patrolling by the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police has led to a rise in cross-border infiltration, cattle smuggling, drug trafficking, and the circulation of intoxicants.
Villagers have demanded stricter border vigilance and immediate administrative intervention to prevent the recurrence of such violent incidents. Police have intensified patrolling in the area as investigation into the case continues.
