Agartala, May 27, 2025: A tragic accident shook the South Chandrapur Sri Lanka Basti area in outskirts of Agartala city on Monday as a three-year-old child lost his life after being hit by a speeding bike. The incident has sparked tension in the locality, prompting a heavy police deployment.
According to eyewitness accounts, the victim identified as Abir Das was leaving his house with his mother when a motorcycle, allegedly ridden at high speed by Ujjal Mia struck him. Locals claim that Mia is known for riding his bike recklessly in the area. “He drives fast every day, and yesterday it cost a child’s life,” said a resident who witnessed the incident.
Following the accident, senior police officials including West District Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran Kumar K rushed to the scene. To maintain order, a large police force was stationed in the locality as tensions escalated.
Authorities confirmed that the accused biker was arrested late Monday night. “We have taken the accused into custody, and an investigation is underway,” SP Kiran Kumar K stated.
The tragic death of young Abir Das has left the community in mourning, with residents demanding stricter enforcement of traffic regulations in the area to prevent such incidents in the future.
