Agartala, May 14, 2025: A late-night commotion gripped Tripura’s Dakshin Charilam No. 6 Colony area under Bishramganj Police Station in Sepahijala district after a toy helicopter with flashing red and blue lights was spotted circling a tree and landing near bamboo bushes, creating panic among villagers.

The incident took place on Tuesday night, prompting residents to rush out of their homes in fear. “It looked like a drone or some suspicious flying object. We were too scared to go near it,” said a local villager. Suspicion and fear spread quickly, especially among women, as the helicopter hovered with lights, then descended to the ground.

Amid concerns of a potential explosion or spy device—fueled further by the country’s tense geopolitical climate—nobody dared approach the object. Villagers quickly informed the authorities.

Responding swiftly, Bishramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Subimal Debnath and Second Officer Mithun Saha arrived at the scene. “We carefully examined the object using flashlights and observed it thoroughly before moving it. It turned out to be a harmless toy helicopter. We assured the villagers there was nothing to fear,” said OC Subimal Debnath.

Once the police took the toy helicopter into custody and confirmed it posed no threat, the villagers gradually calmed down. “The fear among the villagers was genuine, especially since no one in the area claimed ownership of the toy,” said one of the officers.

The mysterious presence of the helicopter sparked rumors and anxiety throughout the locality within minutes. “We thought it might be something from an enemy country,” a woman from the village added.

The police have taken the toy to the Bishramganj Police Station for further inspection, though officials reiterated it posed no danger.
