Agartala, October 8, 2025: A disturbing incident has emerged from Ward No. 14 of Kailashahar Municipal Council under Unakoti district, where a tribal college student has accused her landlord Nirmal Bhattacharya of attempted molestation. Bhattacharya, an employee of the local Forest department has reportedly gone into hiding following the alleged assault.

Local sources informed, Bhattacharjee has long rented out rooms to students from various educational institutions, including tribal students from the Fatikroy assembly constituency. The incident took place on Tuesday morning when the student was cleaning her room. She alleges that Bhattacharya entered without warning, made an obscene proposal, and then attempted to physically assault her when she resisted. The student managed to escape and alerted fellow tenants, who then informed her family in Fatikroy.

The family initially approached the Fatikroy police station but was redirected to the Kailashahar Women’s Police Station, where they filed a written complaint. However, more than 24 hours later, the case has reportedly not been officially registered, prompting outrage from the victim’s family and local leaders of the Tipra Motha party.

TMP’s Fatikroy Block President Biresh Debbarma stated, “We demand swift legal action against Nirmal Bhattacharya. The delay in registering the case is unacceptable, and we hope the police act today.”

Meanwhile, some residents claim Bhattacharya has a history of erratic behavior and previous misconduct, yet no decisive action has been taken against him. Police sources confirm that efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the accused.

The delay in filing the case has sparked widespread criticism and raised concerns about whether government employees are being shielded from accountability. The role of the Kailashahar Women’s Police Station is now under scrutiny, with many questioning its responsiveness in cases involving vulnerable communities.

The victim’s family remains resolute in their demand: “Our daughter deserves justice.”
