Agartala, July 28, 2025: Tripura Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the violent attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio broadcast in Khowai district.
The arrests were made within hours of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s stern directive to law enforcement authorities, urging swift and firm action against those involved in what he termed a “shameful and undemocratic” act.
The incident took place at Asharambari in Khowai, where BJP workers had gathered to listen to the monthly broadcast. The attack reportedly left at least seven party workers injured, three of whom required hospitalization at GBP Hospital in Agartala. Additionally, ten motorcycles and two vehicles belonging to BJP supporters were allegedly set ablaze by individuals believed to be associated with the Tipra Motha Party (TMP).
Confirming the development, Khowai Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Kudiarasu stated, “Based on the FIR, two individuals have been arrested, and two others have been brought in for questioning. The arrested persons will be produced before the court on Monday for police remand.”
In the FIR, BJP Mandal President of Asharambari Assembly Constituency, Jayanta Debbarma, has named 30 individuals as accused in the incident.
Taking to social media, Chief Minister Manik Saha held BJP’s alliance partner, Tipra Motha Party, responsible for the violence and condemned the attack. “Strongly condemn the violent & undemocratic attack by TIPRA Motha party workers during Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi Ji’s #MannKiBaat programme at Asharambari,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
Police investigations are currently underway to trace others allegedly involved in the attack.
