Agartala, June 19, 2025: In a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, Tripura police arrested two youths with 1,800 Yaba tablets valued at approximately ₹9 lakh on Wednesday night at Dharmanagar.

The operation, conducted around 8 PM based on a tip-off, led to the interception of a high-speed e-battery rickshaw bearing registration number TR05-2482 near Dharmanagar police station. Upon searching the vehicle, police found a large consignment of Yaba tablets. The two individuals arrested were identified as Asish Chakma (24) and Vishal Chakma (28), both residents of Pechartala. Notably, one of the accused is reportedly unable to speak, according to police sources.

“We had prior intelligence that two youths would be transporting drugs from the Chandrapur area to Pechartala. Based on that, we laid a trap and successfully intercepted them,” said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Smriti Kanta Bardhan, who led the operation along with OC Suleman Reang.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) B. Zorinpuya and Deputy Commandant Mog were also present during the arrest. “This is part of our ongoing campaign against narcotics in the region. We’re committed to curbing the drug menace,” SDPO Zorinpuya said.
