Agartala, December 22, 2025: In a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, police from Damcherra Police Station in North Tripura’s Dhalai district arrested two individuals and seized a substantial quantity of heroin during a late-night raid on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a search operation at the residence of Unan Joy Reang in the Uriyachhara area under Damcherra Police Station limits. During the raid, officers recovered 33 grams of heroin concealed in three soap cases. The contraband is estimated to be worth between ₹3 to ₹4 lakh in the illegal market.
Two individuals were taken into custody during the operation: Unan Joy Reang, 24, resident of Uriyachhara and Zillul Ahmed, 28, a resident of Bazarghat, Kotamoni, under Bazaricherra Police Station in Shreebhumi district, Assam.
In addition to the narcotics, police also seized two mobile phones from the suspects.
Speaking on the operation, Damchhara police officials stated that surveillance has been intensified in border areas to curb the smuggling of illegal drugs. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and both accused have been formally arrested. They are scheduled to be produced before the court on Monday.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
