Agartala, November 28, 2025: A two-month-old infant passed away on Friday afternoon at Dhalai District Hospital, Kulai, sparking grief and allegations from the family.

The child, who had been suffering from illness, was initially admitted to Raima Valley Primary Health Centre in Gandacherra subdivision four days earlier. Doctors later referred the infant to the district hospital, where pediatric specialist Dr. Paban Debbarma began treatment.

According to the family, the baby collapsed shortly after a nurse administered two injections, leading them to suspect medical negligence.

Dr. Debbarma, however, clarified in an interview that the infant’s condition had been critical from the outset. “The baby was already being fed through a tube. We had advised referral to GB Hospital, but the relatives declined. Until this morning, the condition was stable, but suddenly the child’s body turned black. At that point, the attending nurse administered two injections, after which the baby died,” he explained.

He further emphasized that no doctor would ever deliberately push a patient towards death, calling the incident “tragic and unfortunate.”

The sudden loss has left the family devastated, with a pall of sorrow hanging over their home.
