Agartala, January 6, 2026: Tension has escalated in Tripura’s Monpui area under Unakoti district after unidentified miscreants vandalized property, felling trees in local gardens and defacing the signboard of the Mizo Convention.
The incident has triggered widespread condemnation from residents, who voiced anger over the damage in what is regarded as one of Tripura’s cleanest and most scenic tourist destinations, which is around 177 KMs away from Agartala.
Community members stressed that Jampui Hill has always welcomed visitors with warmth but urged tourists to respect the environment and local values. “All are welcome in Jampui Hill, the cleanest place in Tripura. But we request visitors not to litter, harm nature, or destroy public property. Please respect our culture, norms, and values—the very things we are known for,” residents appealed.
Locals fear repeated acts of vandalism could tarnish the hill’s reputation, celebrated for its natural beauty, hospitality, and cultural harmony. Community leaders emphasized that tourism must be balanced with responsibility. “Come, visit, and have fun responsibly,” they said, urging authorities to step up preventive measures.
The episode has reignited discussions on stricter monitoring and awareness campaigns to safeguard Tripura’s hill tourism hubs. Residents and leaders alike insist that protecting ecological and cultural integrity is essential to ensuring visitors continue to enjoy the region without compromising its heritage.
