Agartala, December 24, 2025: Agartala witnessed a protest march on Wednesday organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, condemning the alleged continuous persecution of minority Hindus in Bangladesh and the recent killing of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das.
The rally began at Anandamoyee Kalibari and was scheduled to conclude at the Agartala Checkpost. However, tensions rose when the procession reached near the police headquarters, where security forces stopped the march citing safety concerns. A brief verbal altercation ensued between protesters and police before the situation was brought under control.
Demonstrators strongly denounced the violent incidents targeting Hindus in Bangladesh and, according to reports, issued warnings directed at the neighboring country.
Leaders of the VHP alleged that despite the rising number of attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, the issue continues to be ignored at the international level. They claimed that minority communities are frequently subjected to assaults, with homes being set ablaze in some areas and individuals killed in others. The leaders demanded an impartial investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible.
Highlighting the recent case, VHP leaders pointed to the killing of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu youth from Dubalia Para in Bhaluka upazila, Mymensingh district, who was allegedly beaten to death. They declared that unless the Bangladesh government takes immediate and effective measures to ensure the safety of minorities, larger movements will be launched in the coming days.
