Agartala, August 12, 2025: A shocking case of betrayal and brutality has come to light in Tripura, with the decomposed body of 45-year-old housewife Kona Debnath Das recovered from the deep forest of Kashari under Jatrapur police station in Sepahijala district on Tuesday morning.

The victim had been missing since July 28 from an area near Belonia CMO’s office under South Tripura district. Police have arrested her husband Raju Das along with Dulan Das and Mohammad Mia, both of whom were Trinamool Congress candidates in the last municipal elections.

According to police sources, the murder was carried out for just ₹50,000. “Preliminary investigation reveals that Raju Das had given ₹50,000 to Dulan Das in the form of betel nuts to kill his wife. Dulon then lured the victim out of her house with a phone call and took her to Kashari forest,” an investigating officer stated.

Police allege that Mohammad Mia slit Kona’s throat with a meat cleaver while Dulon assisted in the crime. The victim’s daughter Preeti Debnath had lodged a missing person report with Belonia Women’s Police Station soon after her mother’s disappearance. “For fourteen days I kept hoping she would come back. I never imagined my own father could be behind this,” Preeti said with tears.

The breakthrough came on Monday night when, acting on intelligence, police arrested all three accused. “During interrogation, they confessed to the crime and led us to the spot. We then called the victim’s daughter to identify the body,” the police added.

Forensic experts have been called in to examine the remains, and further investigation is underway. “This is a case of extreme cruelty and betrayal. We will ensure the strictest legal action against all involved,” a senior police official assured.
