Agartala, June 24, 2025: A 25-year-old woman died under mysterious circumstances on Monday after visiting Janapriya Medical Hall in Teliamura, triggering public outrage and a political outcry over alleged medical negligence and illegal practices.
The deceased, a young mother and resident of the area had reportedly visited the medical hall with complaints of back pain. She consulted a doctor identified as Dr. T.K. Sarkar, who allegedly informed her that fluid needed to be urgently drained from her lungs. Eyewitnesses claim that the woman’s condition deteriorated rapidly after she was administered an injection. Despite visible distress, neither the doctor nor the pharmacy staff intervened to assist her, according to bystanders.
Her husband, an e-rickshaw driver, rushed her to the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
The incident has sparked widespread anger, with locals demanding strict legal action. Chief Whip and Teliamura MLA Kalyani Saha Roy visited the site on Monday evening and strongly condemned the incident, calling it a “murder in the guise of treatment.”
Roy alleged that the medical hall was operating without a licensed pharmacist and that Dr. Sarkar, reportedly from Agartala, lacked proper authorization to practice at the facility. She demanded the harshest punishment for both the doctor and the pharmacy owner.
“The government will not tolerate such illegal and life-threatening medical operations,” Roy said, vowing stern action.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter. Dr. Sarkar is currently absconding, and efforts are on to trace his whereabouts. Authorities are also verifying his medical credentials and the legal status of Janapriya Medical Hall.
