Agartala, December 12, 2024: A tragic case of mob violence took place in the Tripura’s Laxmibil area of Bishalgarh, where a youth accused of theft succumbed to injuries inflicted by locals. The victim named Sajal Nama (24) and a resident of Bankumari, died after enduring severe physical assault over allegations of battery theft.
According to reports, Sajal was recently accused of stealing a battery in the Laxmibil area. Some individuals, acting on these accusations allegedly beat him severely before handing him over to Bishalgarh police. After initial detention, the police released him. However, upon returning home, Sajal began feeling unwell, complaining to his wife about the brutality he suffered.
“He told me they beat him severely over false allegations. He had a serious head injury,” his grieving wife shared. Despite seeking medical attention, Sajal’s condition worsened. Initially treated at Bishalgarh Hospital, he was referred to IGM Hospital, where doctors declared his condition critical and shifted him to GB Hospital. Tragically, Sajal collapsed and died while undergoing treatment at around 10 pm on Wednesday.
Sajal leaves behind a distraught wife and two young children. “I don’t know how I’ll manage without him. Our financial condition is dire, and I have two children to raise,” said his wife, struggling to hold back tears. She called for justice, urging authorities to take action against those responsible for her husband’s death.
The family’s anguish deepened as the autopsy was completed, and the body was handed over on Thursday afternoon. The case highlights the perils of mob violence and the devastating impact it can have on innocent families. The police have launched an investigation, with calls for swift justice growing louder from the community.
“I lost my husband to baseless accusations and senseless violence. All I want is justice for him,” his wife appealed.
