Agartala, September 10, 2025: A shocking murder in connection with the gold smuggling business has sent waves of tension through the border subdivision of Sonamura. The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Suleman Hossain found dead near Sonamura Hospital early Wednesday morning, triggering widespread unrest.

According to police sources, the murder took place late Tuesday night when Suleman was reportedly lured by a group of 4-5 individuals from the smuggling network to a secluded location. At around 2:30 am, Suleman called his mother, reporting that he was being assaulted. However, by morning, his body was discovered dumped within the hospital premises.

The Sonamura Police have detained a woman named Ruksana Begum, a resident of the border village N.C. Nagar, for questioning. Investigations suggest that Ruksana is involved in the illegal trade of smuggling gold from Bangladesh. The modus operandi involves smuggling gold biscuits by throwing them over the border fence, which are then collected by local operatives like Suleman and transported to Agartala, and further to Kolkata through a network of intermediaries.

Family members revealed that three days prior to the murder, a gold biscuit valued at approximately Rs 1,20,000 was smuggled over the border fence by the gang. Suleman was tasked with collecting the consignment but reportedly failed to do so, which may have led to the fatal confrontation.

The incident has created an uproar among local residents, with a large crowd gathering at the hospital following the discovery of the body. The police are actively investigating the case and tracking down other suspects involved in the smuggling operation.
