Dharmanagar, June 6: In a major success for North District Police and the 97 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF), a large consignment of banned Yaba tablets worth an estimated ₹50 lakh was seized near the international border at Raghna under Dharmanagar Police Station on Saturday.
According to police and BSF sources, personnel of the 97 Battalion BSF alerted Dharmanagar Police Station after receiving information about a suspicious stash of narcotics near the border. Acting on the tip-off, a joint search operation was launched in the Raghna border area.
During the operation, security personnel recovered 48 abandoned packets lying near the barbed-wire fence adjacent to the Raghna Integrated Check Post (ICP). On examination, the packets were found to contain a total of 9,427 Yaba tablets.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the narcotics were likely stockpiled for smuggling across the international border into Bangladesh. Investigators suspect that the smugglers abandoned the consignment and fled after sensing the presence of BSF and police personnel in the area.
Officials estimated the black-market value of the seized tablets at around ₹50 lakh. The recovered narcotics have been taken into custody by Dharmanagar Police Station for further legal action.
Following the seizure, security measures along the border have been intensified. Police and BSF authorities have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those involved in the attempted cross-border smuggling operation.
The recovery of such a substantial quantity of narcotics has generated considerable attention in the border district and is being viewed as a significant blow to drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
