Tripura’s ADC Launches Rs 89.07 Lakh Cage Culture Project at Twisinta Lake

Agartala, November 18, 2025: The Promotion of Cage Culture in Twisinta Lake (Sitacherra) was officially launched today at Hejamara Block by Rabindra Debbarma, Executive Member of the Education department, Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

Addressing the gathering, Debbarma highlighted that lasting development in the region is possible only through peace and social harmony. He said the initiative aims to strengthen eco-tourism while improving the livelihood of economically weaker communities by connecting them to government welfare schemes.

On the fisheries front, Debbarma highlighted ongoing government support for fish farmers, including pond excavation, distribution of fish seeds, and supply of feed. At Sitacherra Lake, 72 fish farmers have been provided with cages, each accompanied by 1,000 fish seeds and fish feed. He urged residents to take proper care of the assets to ensure long-term benefits.

The inaugural event saw participation from several officials, among them Nihar Ranjan Debbarma, Vice Chairman of Hejamara BAC; Fisheries Director Santosh Das; West Tripura DFO Akshay Balu Bhode; Mohanpur SDM Sajal Debnath; and Mohanpur Fisheries Supervisor Dipmala Roy. The programme was chaired by Sunil Debbarma, Chairman of Hejamara BAC, while Deputy Director of Fisheries Bijoy Roy delivered the welcome address.

Officials said 72 cages were built under the RIDP project at a cost of Rs 89.07 lakh. Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, 72 beneficiaries received 1,000 fish seeds each, involving an expenditure of Rs 7.88 lakh.

The project is expected to enhance fish production, expand livelihood options, and support eco-tourism, contributing to broader rural development in the area.
