Tripura’s Dharmanagar By-Election: All Six Nominations Found Valid after Scrutiny

Agartala, March 25, 2026: Political activity surrounding the upcoming by-election to the Dharmanagar assembly constituency has gained momentum, with the scrutiny of nomination papers successfully completed on Wednesday under tight security arrangements.

The verification process was conducted at the Sub-Divisional Officer’s (SDO) office in the presence of candidates and election officials. Returning Officer Debjani Chowdhury informed that all six nomination papers submitted for the by-election have been found legally valid.

Candidates representing various political parties reached the SDO office around 11:00 AM for the scrutiny process, which continued for several hours. After thorough verification of documents and compliance checks, the administration officially approved all nominations.

The six candidates contesting in the election are Amitabh Datta of CPI(M) (Left Front), Jahar Chakraborty of BJP, Chayan Bhattacharya of Congress, Bibhas Ranjan Das of the ‘Amra Bangali’ party, Sanchay Chowdhury of SUCI(C), and independent candidate Brajalal Debnath.

The Returning Officer stated that the scrutiny was carried out in strict adherence to legal norms and electoral guidelines. With this phase completed, attention now turns to the final date for withdrawal of nominations. The final list of candidates will be confirmed after the withdrawal deadline, setting the stage for a keenly contested electoral battle in Dharmanagar.
