Agartala, June 24, 2025: Tripura’s former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Tuesday launched a sharp critique of the BJP’s much-publicized “Sushasan” (good governance) slogan citing growing unemployment, economic distress and political violence as evidence of governance failure in the state.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the vandalized residence of local CPIM leader Badal Das in Alanganagar under Barjala Constituency, Sarkar questioned, “If widespread joblessness, eroding income levels, and even baby-selling are considered signs of good governance, then what is left to say?”

Sarkar’s comments followed an alleged attack on Das’s home by miscreants on Sunday night. The incident occurred just hours after a local CPIM-affiliated Khet Mazoor Union conference had concluded peacefully at the same location. According to eyewitnesses, the assailants, allegedly linked to the ruling BJP, damaged the boundary wall and furniture before fleeing when locals raised an alarm.

Accompanied by senior CPIM leaders Ratan Das and Shankar Prasad Datta, Sarkar visited the site on June 23 and condemned the incident as a “cowardly assault aimed at suppressing democratic voices.”

He further accused the BJP government of deliberately ignoring the worsening unemployment situation, pointing out that over 15,000 teaching posts remain vacant. Sarkar also criticized sections of the police for being “silent spectators” in the face of growing unrest.

“The youth who once backed the BJP with high hopes are now disillusioned. Their rising frustration is being redirected through attacks on opposition workers to prevent dissent from consolidating,” he added.
