Agartala, August 20, 2025: In the Lok Sabha, former Tripura Chief Minister and MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday raised a query regarding the redevelopment of railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) in Tripura and Bihar’s Samastipur division.

Deb sought details on: The number of stations identified in Tripura under ABSS; Whether Bagaha and Harinagar railway stations in Bihar’s Samastipur division were included under the scheme; and If not, whether the government would consider their inclusion.

Responding to the queries, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the House that four railway stations in Tripura—Agartala, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat and Udaipur—have been identified under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

The Minister further highlighted that the expenditure on passenger amenities has increased nearly 6.5 times during the Modi government compared to the UPA regime. While ₹6,733 crores were spent between 2004–14, the expenditure rose to ₹35,591 crores in 2014–25, with ₹3,701 crores already allocated up to July 2025.

Vaishnaw also shared updates on the ongoing development works at several railway stations across Tripura. At Agartala Station, the lift installation has been completed, while construction of a 12-meter foot over bridge and the station building is currently underway. At Dharmanagar Station, the platform shelter, approach road, and boundary wall have been completed, with work progressing on the circulating area, a 12-meter foot bridge, and an escalator. Kumarghat Station is witnessing active development, including the construction of a 12-meter foot over bridge, improvements to the circulating area and approach road, and the addition of a new waiting hall and platform shelter. Meanwhile, at Udaipur Station, work is ongoing on a 12-meter foot over bridge, along with upgrades to the waiting hall and toilets.

“The modernization of stations and passenger comfort remain our top priority under the long-term plan of Indian Railways,” Vaishnaw assured the Parliament.
