Tripura’s Indigenous Students Receive Over ₹300 Cr In Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarships in Five Years

Agartala, December 20, 2025: Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Durgadas Uikey presented detailed figures in the Lok Sabha regarding financial allocations and beneficiaries of pre-matric and post-matric scholarships for tribal students across India, including Tripura, over the last five financial years.

For pre-matric scholarships, in 2020-21, a total of Rs 248.90 crore was allocated nationwide, of which Tripura received Rs 2.52 crore, benefiting 14,39,930 students across India and 9,404 in Tripura. In 2021-22, the nationwide allocation rose to Rs 394.14 crore, while Tripura received Rs59 lakh, with 13,77,713 beneficiaries across the country and 17,307 in Tripura. In 2022-23, Rs 357.29 crore was allocated nationwide and Rs11.37 crore for Tripura, supporting 10,03,157 students across India and 15,017 in Tripura. In 2023-24, the nationwide allocation stood at Rs308.60 crore, though Tripura’s share was not specified; the beneficiaries numbered 9,27,364 nationwide and 11,601 in Tripura. In 2024-25, Rs163.69 crore was allocated nationwide and Rs 6.92 crore for Tripura, with 9,08,138 beneficiaries across India and 12,597 in Tripura.

For post-matric scholarships, in 2020-21, Rs 1829 crore was allocated nationwide, with Tripura receiving Rs 48.05 crore, benefiting 20,05,696 students across India and 26,108 in Tripura. In 2021-22, the nationwide allocation increased to Rs 2256.80 crore, while Tripura received Rs 71.89 crore, supporting 23,40,407 students nationwide and 35,520 in Tripura. In 2022-23, Rs 1964.63 crore was allocated nationwide and Rs 45.22 crore for Tripura, with 22,69,112 beneficiaries across India and 37,380 in Tripura. In 2023-24, the nationwide allocation rose to Rs 2668.69 crore, with Tripura receiving Rs 40 crore, benefiting 20,53,703 students nationwide and 33,678 in Tripura. In 2024-25, Rs 2598.34 crore was allocated nationwide and Rs 74.94 crore for Tripura, supporting 18,15,598 students across India and 33,506 in Tripura.

The figures highlight fluctuating allocations and beneficiary numbers over the years, with Tripura consistently receiving targeted support under both scholarship schemes. The Minister emphasized that these initiatives aim to ensure educational opportunities for tribal students across the country.
