Agartala, November 07, 2025: Tripura has recorded a significant boost in paddy production this year, according to Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratanlal Nath on Friday. During a visit to a paddy field in Lankamura, West Tripura, the minister expressed optimism that the districts of Khowai and Dhalai would soon achieve self-sufficiency in food grain production.
Minister Nath inspected the farmland of local farmer Bishnupada Adhikari, who has cultivated six varieties of paddy—black rice, Harinarayan, Kali Khasha, Binni, and Basmati—across five kanis of land with government support. The minister also joined farmers in harvesting the crop, marking the beginning of the season’s yield.
“This region is known for its abundant agricultural output,” Nath said. “Farmers here grow vegetables, flowers, and a variety of crops. Today, we are here with officials from the agriculture department to encourage farmers and formally commence the paddy harvest.”
He noted that the paddy yield this year has been highly satisfactory. “Three districts and 30 blocks in Tripura have already achieved self-sufficiency in food grain production. With favorable weather, we expect Khowai and Dhalai to join that list soon,” he added.
Highlighting his personal experience with farming, Nath emphasized the importance of understanding the labor and dedication of cultivators. He announced plans to introduce modern agricultural machinery to ease the harvesting process in the coming days.
“Our country is now exporting rice, fish, milk, and other agricultural products in large quantities. This year will be no exception. Agriculture remains the backbone of our society and economy, and it is our collective responsibility to stand by our farmers,” the minister said.
