Agartala, October 13, 2025: CPI(M) Politburo member and Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chowdhury on Monday launched a sharp attack on the BJP and the RSS, alleging that the ruling party wants to distort and rewrite the country’s history.

During his visit to the CPI(M) party office in Patichhari under Gomati district, which was allegedly attacked by miscreants, Chowdhury condemned the incident and blamed BJP-backed goons for the violence. “The RSS-led BJP government wants to change the country’s history because they are barbarians. They want to erase the truth and shape the nation’s past according to their ideology,” he said.

Chowdhury informed that the CPI(M) had observed the 38th Birchandra Manu Shaheedan Diwas across several parts of the state on Saturday to pay homage to the martyrs of 1988. “A short commemorative program was held in Patichhari too, but BJP-backed miscreants attacked the venue,” he alleged.

Recalling the tragic incident of 1988, Chowdhury said, “Thirteen martyrs lost their lives in fascist terrorism during the coalition government. There was no BJP in the state back then. So, what is the reason behind attacking a martyr’s day event now, when the BJP is in power?”

The Leader of Opposition questioned the government’s silence over the attacks and urged people to remain vigilant against attempts to manipulate India’s historical and ideological identity.
