Agartala, September 3, 2025: Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury has sharply criticized the BJP-led government in Tripura after the alleged assault on MLA Philip Kumar Reang at the MLA Hostel near ILS Hospital in Agartala last Monday.
Speaking to media personnel here, Choudhury termed the incident a “burning example” of the worsening law and order situation in the state. He alleged that Tripura has become “a state filled with mafia elements” where the police cannot function independently and “a section of them have already turned into puppets of the ruling government.”
Choudhury accused the BJP of fostering a “fascist regime” through seven-and-a-half years of misrule, claiming the party has even lost control over its own cadre. He referred to MLA Reang’s complaint at NCC Police Station, which named Pratik Dev Varman, son of Hyderabad Governor and former Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varman as the prime accused.
The Opposition leader further alleged that Pratik Dev Varman has been running a “kingdom of corruption and extortion” in the NCC PS area, lamenting that no action has been taken despite public knowledge of such activities.
“We have not yet raised the slogan of ‘Chief Minister step down’. But the Chief Minister seems blind to his own weaknesses. We don’t want his resignation, we want him to uphold the Constitution and serve the people. Still, it may be his own party workers who ultimately force him to step down” Choudhury said.
