Agartala, August 05, 2025: CPI(M) Politburo member and Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the ruling party, accusing it of ignoring basic civic needs while its leaders have allegedly enriched themselves.
Speaking at a public meeting organized by the CPI(M) Abhaynagar Regional Committee near the Radhanagar stand, Chaudhury claimed that while Tripura’s roads and drinking water systems remain underdeveloped, leaders from the ruling alliance have “become smart.”
“The state and Agartala city have not become smart. It is the MLAs, corporators, and mandal leaders of the ruling party who have become smart,” Chaudhury said, drawing loud applause from the crowd. “Their houses have become smart, their appearance has become smart, their bank accounts have become smart, but the people continue to suffer due to poor civic services,” he added sarcastically.
The public meeting held opposite the Abhinandan Biye Bari was part of a protest demanding the withdrawal of increased prices of essential services including electricity, CNG, PNG, drinking water and Gomati milk. The protest also demanded the cancellation of smart meter installations and resolution of local civic issues.
In a strongly worded statement, Chaudhury said, “It’s not just about draining sewage water from Agartala; the BJP, IPFT and Tipra Motha, the filth of the political system must also be cleansed from Tripura.”
