Agartala, July 23, 2025: Leader of the Opposition in Tripura Legislative Assembly (TLA) & CPIM Politburo member Jitendra Chaudhury on Tuesday invoked the legacy of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and veteran parliamentarian Hiren Mukherjee urging legislators across party lines to emulate their impactful parliamentary conduct.
Speaking at a function held to mark the foundation day of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Chaudhury highlighted the importance of elevating the quality of debates and discussions within the House. He highlighted the significance of raising public-centric issues with depth and sincerity, a practice he said was epitomized by leaders like Vajpayee and Mukherjee.
“Be it the ruling or opposition bench, the real responsibility lies in articulating the voice of the people with clarity and conviction. Few leaders mastered this art, and Hiren Mukherjee was certainly one of them. Though I never heard him live, I’ve been told that even Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru would pause his work to listen to Mukherjee’s speeches in Parliament,” said Chaudhury.
He also reflected on his personal experiences listening to Vajpayee during both his tenure as Leader of the Opposition and later as Prime Minister. “His oratory and grasp over issues were unparalleled. There is much to learn from such figures, regardless of our political alignment. Our speeches in the House should resonate with the public and leave a lasting impression,” Chaudhury remarked.
