Agartala, July 24, 2025: The Higher Education Department has suspended Dr. Abhijit Nath, Assistant Professor of Ramthakur College, with immediate effect following allegations of serious malpractice in the ongoing undergraduate admission process for the 2025–26 academic session.

The suspension order, issued by Special Secretary Raval Hemendra Kumar, cites a vernacular daily’s report dated July 19, which alleged Dr. Nath’s involvement in “illegal and unauthorized activities” related to student admissions.

Preliminary findings submitted by the Principal of Ramthakur College confirmed that Dr. Nath had admitted in writing to taking 50 admission fee cards from the college office and keeping them at his residence without permission. Of these, 28 cards were later returned, but no explanation was given for the remaining 22.

However, the Principal’s detailed report pointed to a much higher number of fee cards—120—that were taken by Dr. Nath, indicating a larger discrepancy than initially claimed.

A subsequent inquiry by the college administration found that 69 students, who were not listed in the official admission rolls, were found in possession of fee cards allegedly bearing forged signatures of college authorities.

“In view of the prima facie findings, it appears that Dr. Nath was involved in serious malpractice, forgery and gross violation of admission norms,” the order from the department stated.

Dr. Nath has been suspended under Rule 10 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965. The suspension order also restricts his movement, stating that his headquarters shall remain in Agartala, West Tripura, and he cannot leave without prior official permission.
