Agartala, September 4, 2025: As Durga Puja, the most celebrated festival among Bengalis draws near, preparations are underway across West Tripura district. On Thursday, District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar convened a crucial meeting with Puja organizers to ensure smooth and safe celebrations. The session was attended by Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak and other senior administrative officials.

Speaking to the media personnel in Agartala city after the meeting, Dr. Kumar emphasized that the primary objective was to facilitate peaceful and well-coordinated festivities. Organizers were issued several directives aimed at minimizing public inconvenience and ensuring compliance with safety norms.

One of the key concerns raised was the ongoing drainage work in the capital, which has narrowed several roads. In response, clubs have been instructed not to extend decorative lighting beyond designated boundaries. “Any violation could severely disrupt traffic flow,” warned Dr. Kumar, adding that non-compliance may lead to punitive action, including cancellation of Puja permissions.

The administration also laid down structural guidelines: marquees must not exceed 40 feet in height, idols should be capped at 20 feet, and decorative gates must remain within the 20-foot limit. However, Dr. Kumar noted that these specifications would be reviewed in consultation with organizers before final approval.

Additionally, clubs have been urged to prioritize visitor safety. “We want the Sharad Utsav to be joyful and incident-free,” said Dr. Kumar, stressing the importance of vigilance and crowd management throughout the festival period.
