Agartala, July 31, 2025: While post-death rituals for Class XII student Trisha Majumdar were being performed at her residence in Barapathri, Sonapur, a high-level investigation team from the School Education Department visited Sonarpur Higher Secondary School on Wednesday afternoon, acting on the direct orders of Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.
Trisha Majumdar, a student of Class XII allegedly died by suicide after reportedly consuming poison. It is alleged that inhumane behavior by one of her teachers Bina Das Pathari drove her to the extreme step.
Following the Chief Minister’s directive, the School Education Department swiftly constituted a three-member investigation team yesterday. The team includes Lisa Bardhan (Joint Director, Primary Education), Kajal Kumar Bhowmik (Officer-on-Special Duty, Secondary Education department), and Sudip Sarkar (OSD, West District Education Office).
The team reached Sonapur Higher Secondary School on Wednesday to begin a detailed probe. They questioned the headmaster, members of the School Management Committee, the accused teacher Bina Das Patari, Trisha’s classmates and other faculty members separately.
Speaking to the media personnel after the inquiry, Lisa Bardhan said, “This is a very painful and tragic incident. We have started our investigation thoroughly to ensure the truth comes to light. The report will be submitted to the higher authorities today. It will be up to them to decide the next course of action.”
Meanwhile, students of all classes, including Trisha’s classmates held a protest at the school premises, demanding justice.
