Agartala, June 05, 2025: The Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), an affiliate of the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), has announced plans to launch a state-wide campaign titled “Clean Illegal Immigrants Drive-Out Mission” to address the growing concerns over the presence of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh in Tripura.
In a press release issued on Thursday, TSF General Secretary Hamalu Jamatia and President Samrat Debbarma expressed serious concern over what they described as a continuous influx and settlement of undocumented migrants. Citing a Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) notification dated May 19 — widely reported across media platforms — the student leaders said the directive mandates state governments, including Tripura, to identify and deport such immigrants within 30 days.
“The Government of Tripura must treat this issue with the utmost seriousness,” the release stated, adding that credible reports had emerged of illegal immigrants settling in several districts including Gomati, Dhalai, Sepahijala, South Tripura, West Tripura, and North Tripura. The TSF alleged that despite sporadic arrests, the situation remains unaddressed on a larger scale.
Describing the situation as a direct threat to the demographic balance, land rights, and cultural identity of Tripura’s indigenous people, the TSF called for the immediate implementation of the MHA directive. It also urged support from all sections of society — students, youth, civil society organisations, and concerned citizens — to stand united on the issue.
The TSF clarified that its upcoming mission would be conducted through peaceful and democratic means, and would aim to involve local communities across affected areas.
“This is not merely an administrative concern, but a question of survival for indigenous communities,” the statement concluded.
