Agartala, August 08, 2025: The 3rd Battalion of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) has suspended a Ward Boy following the emergence of a viral video showing uniformed TSR personnel assaulting a man sitting on a roadside in Agartala on Thursday.

The video, which sparked widespread outrage on social media, prompted immediate action from the TSR authorities. The suspended individual has been identified as Suman Das, a Ward Boy posted in Agartala under the Traffic Department.

Confirming the action, Binoy Debbarma, Commandant of the 3rd Battalion TSR, issued an official suspension order and stated that disciplinary proceedings are being considered against Das.

“NOW, THEREFORE, the undersigned, being the appointing authority, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-rule (1) of Rule-10 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965 read with Rule-43 of the Tripura State Rifles (DCSC, etc.) Rules, 1988, hereby places the said No. 02091055 E/F (Ward Boy) Suman Das under suspension with immediate effect,” the order said.

The order further specifies that during the suspension period, Das’s headquarters will be the 3rd Battalion TSR at Kachucherra, and he is barred from leaving the station without prior approval from the competent authority.

An internal investigation is likely to follow as the TSR faces scrutiny over the conduct of its personnel in public spaces.
