Agartala, March 18, 2026: The elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) will now be held on April 12, a day earlier than originally scheduled.

The decision was taken just hours after the Tripura Legislative Assembly unanimously urged the State Election Commission to reconsider the polling date. April 13, the earlier date, coincides with major tribal festivals such as Gariya Puja, Biju, and Buisu.

Responding to appeals from political parties, MLAs, and various community organisations, the Commission stated that the rescheduling was aimed at ensuring maximum voter participation, particularly among tribal communities observing these significant cultural occasions.

Despite the change in polling date, the rest of the election schedule will remain unchanged, officials confirmed.
