Two-Day Workshop on Index of Industrial Production Begins in Agartala

Agartala, February 05, 2026: A two-day workshop on the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) was inaugurated on Thursday at Pragya Bhavan, Agartala. The event is being organized by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), Government of Tripura, under the Planning (Statistics) Department, in collaboration with the Economic Statistics Division of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Bikas Debbarma, Minister, Government of Tripura (Tribal Welfare, Statistics and other departments), who formally opened the workshop. Also present were N.K. Santoshi, Director General, MoSPI, Government of India, and Deepak Dhanawat, Director, Economic Statistics Division, MoSPI.

On behalf of Tripura DES, Chiranjib Ghosh, Joint Director, delivered the welcome address. In his remarks, the Director General of MoSPI highlighted the importance of the workshop in the context of ongoing revisions to the base year for GDP and other statistical indicators. He emphasized that the IIP is a vital tool for accurately measuring industrial growth.

Welcoming participants to Tripura, the Minister underscored the significance of statistics in assessing growth indicators and outlined various developmental initiatives undertaken by the state government.

The workshop is being attended by Directors and senior officials from the Economics and Statistics Departments of several states, officials from MoSPI, and representatives of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). Participating states include Haryana, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh.

Paul S. Darlong, Joint Director, DES Tripura, proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all guests, participants, and officials for their active cooperation.

The workshop will continue on February 5 and 6, 2026, featuring technical sessions and discussions on methodologies and approaches related to revising the base year of the IIP, in alignment with MoSPI’s ongoing national statistical initiatives.
