Agartala, January 24, 2026: Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday inaugurated five major projects worth ₹270 crore and laid the foundation stones for three more valued at ₹95 crore, marking Basant Panchami with a significant development thrust in the state.
The projects, spanning road connectivity, power access, and livelihood promotion in tribal and remote areas, are part of the Centre’s broader vision to transform Tripura into a connected and competitive hub in the North East. Scindia underscored that the initiatives align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mandate of channeling 10% of Gross Budgetary Support from all central ministries into the region — a policy that has driven investments of over ₹6.5 lakh crore across the eight northeastern states in the past decade.
Over the past decade, Tripura has undergone sweeping infrastructure upgrades. Broad-gauge rail connectivity has been extended up to Sabroom, while the road network has expanded significantly from 850 km to more than 1,550 km. The Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport has been modernized to handle 3 million passengers annually, and the power sector has been strengthened with an installed capacity of around 1,000 MW, making the state power-surplus.
Among the projects launched, the 14-km Jatanbari–Mandirghat–Tirthamukh Road will improve access to villages, markets, schools, and hospitals. The 8-km Gandacherra–Raishyabari–Narikel Kunja Road is set to enhance connectivity for tribal habitations to district headquarters. PMGSY road projects will link interior and hilly regions, while Solar Micro-Grid Projects under PM-DevINE will provide clean and reliable electricity to remote habitations, supporting education, healthcare, and small enterprises.
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia praised Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for his “speed, dedication and coordination with the Centre,” noting that joint efforts have accelerated Tripura’s growth trajectory. He emphasized the state’s strategic role, stating that Tripura should serve not only as the gateway to the North East but also as a gateway to South-East Asia. He added that Guwahati and Tripura will be strengthened as international connectivity hubs, boosting trade and tourism.
Following the inauguration, Scindia and Saha visited two PM-DevINE healthcare projects in Agartala. The Agartala Government Dental College Building is aimed at strengthening dental education and oral healthcare, while the Maternal Child Health (MCH) Wing at AGMC GBP Hospital is focused on enhancing maternal, neonatal, and child health services.
Scindia concluded with a call for inclusive growth and sustainable livelihoods, remarking, “Roads will not merely carry vehicles — they will carry ambition. Power will not merely light homes — it will illuminate futures.”
With parallel investments in tourism, industry, and social infrastructure, the initiatives are expected to reinforce Tripura’s role as a strategic hub in the North East and contribute to the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
