A high-level meeting of the Task-Force on Tourism in the North East Region was convened under the chairmanship of Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia. The meeting aimed to deliberate on a comprehensive roadmap for tourism sector development in the North Eastern states.
Chief Ministers from Meghalaya and Tripura, a Minister from Arunachal Pradesh, and representatives from Sikkim’s Tourism & Civil Aviation and Commerce & Industries Department attended the meeting. The discussion focused on unlocking the region’s hidden potential to enhance tourism-related activities.
The Chief Minister of Meghalaya presented a roadmap emphasizing seven major components for sustainable tourism development, including creating a world-class destination, gap assessment, investments, regional connectivity, stakeholder coordination, regulatory framework, and integrated market strategy.
The Minister from Sikkim, TT Bhutia, welcomed the proposed roadmap and suggested including rural tourism, international border tourism, and support for increasing inbound tourists and regional connectivity. The Union Minister acknowledged these suggestions and agreed to incorporate them into the roadmap.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on collaborative implementation, with all states agreeing to work closely with the Central Government to position the North Eastern Region as a premier tourism destination.
