Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia Visits Agarwood Industry in Tripura, Lays Foundation for ₹80-Crore Processing Unit

Agartala, January 24, 2026: Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia on Saturday visited the Maman Industries agarwood factory at North Fulbari in Kadamtala under Dharmanagar subdivision of North Tripura district. His visit sparked widespread enthusiasm among local entrepreneurs and residents engaged in the agarwood trade.

During the inspection, the minister interacted with agarwood traders and industry stakeholders, holding detailed discussions on production, processing, marketing, and future prospects of the sector. He also shared guidance on how the central and state governments could work together to ensure holistic development of the agarwood industry.

Later, Scindia laid the foundation stone of a newly constructed Common Agar Processing Unit at Baragol, built at a cost of ₹80 crore to boost the agarwood market infrastructure. The ceremony created a festive atmosphere across the region, with locals expressing hope that the project would usher in a new era for the industry.

The event was attended by Tripura ministers Tinku Roy, Santana Chakma, and Animesh Debbarma, along with North Tripura SP Avinash Rai, District Magistrate Chandni Chandan, senior forest officials, and other administrative representatives.

Addressing the gathering, Scindia said the central government is committed to working jointly with the Tripura government to realize its vision for the agarwood sector. “One of our primary goals is to showcase Tripura’s agarwood industry on the global stage,” he remarked.

He further emphasized that the growth of the sector would generate new employment opportunities for local youth and play a vital role in strengthening the state’s economy. Scindia noted that his visit aimed to highlight the immense potential of the small northeastern hill state before the world.

Overall, officials, entrepreneurs, and residents expressed optimism that this initiative would provide a new direction to Tripura’s agarwood industry.
