Agartala, May 17, 2025: Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Panchayati Raj, Rajiv Ranjan Singh on Saturday announced that a central expert team will visit Tripura in July to draft a comprehensive roadmap for achieving self-sufficiency in milk and fish production.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the 40 TLPD Milk Plant, Dairy Unit-II at Bamutia in West Tripura district. The team will include officials from the Animal Husbandry Department, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), and the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB).
“The Centre recognises Tripura’s vast potential in dairy and fisheries. In June, we will hold discussions with Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, and in July, a team of experts will visit the state for extensive consultations,” Singh stated.
Reaffirming the central government’s commitment, the Minister said that all necessary support would be extended to Tripura to strengthen its agricultural and dairy infrastructure. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives for India’s consistent 6% annual growth in milk production, which has made the country the world’s top milk producer.
Singh highlighted the state’s progress in artificial insemination, revealing that approximately 2.7 lakh procedures have been conducted in Tripura, resulting in the birth of 50,000 calves—a significant stride toward dairy development.
He also discussed the state’s opportunities in fish farming and animal husbandry with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and ARDD Minister Sudhangshu Das. The Minister praised the state government’s proactive approach under the Chief Minister’s leadership and stressed that empowering rural farmers through dairy and fishery development will play a crucial role in boosting Tripura’s economy.
