Agartala, January 01, 2026: Former Member of Parliament from Uttarakhand, Tarun Vijay, arrived in Tripura on Thursday. He is scheduled to meet Angel Chakma’s family on Friday to express solidarity and convey the condolences of the Uttarakhand government. His visit is being seen as a gesture underscoring the state government’s sensitivity to the tragic incident.
Angel Chakma was reportedly murdered in Dehradun, and news of her death has triggered protests and emotional reactions nationwide. The Uttarakhand Police have arrested four out of five suspects allegedly involved in the crime. Authorities claim the main accused has fled to Nepal, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has assured that the culprits will face the harshest punishment under the law. Meanwhile, the Tripura government has extended its support to the bereaved family. Both the Tripura and Uttarakhand governments have provided financial assistance to the victim’s family.
In a further move to expedite justice, the Uttarakhand Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to track down the prime accused and ensure a thorough probe.
During his visit to Tripura, Tarun Vijay met with Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu earlier on Thursday. He is also expected to meet Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha later in the evening before visiting Angel Chakma’s residence on Friday.
The incident has reignited concerns over the safety of students from the Northeast studying in other parts of India, prompting calls for stronger protective measures and swift justice.
