Agartala, November 07, 2025: Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath today hailed the enduring legacy of “Vande Mataram,” describing it as a sacred hymn of patriotism that continues to stir the hearts of millions of Indians even 150 years after its composition.
Speaking at a commemorative event at Muktadhara Auditorium marking the 150th anniversary of the iconic song, Nath said, “Vande Mataram is not merely a poem or a song—it is a mantra symbolizing India’s national consciousness, unity, and sacrifice.”
The minister noted that the devotional hymn, considered one of the finest in the world, was penned in 1875 by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay out of deep reverence and love for the motherland. It was later included in his seminal novel Anandamath in 1882.
“Since then,” Nath said, “it has become a clarion call for patriotism—a mantra that binds us as one nation. Even in this era of technology, globalization, and social change, the phrase reminds us of our commitment and responsibility to the nation.”
He announced that nationwide celebrations marking the 150th year of “Vande Mataram” will commence on November 7, 2025. The year-long observance will feature social initiatives, cultural programs, and educational campaigns aimed at rekindling patriotic fervor and strengthening national unity.
Nath also recalled the song’s historic role during the freedom movement, noting that it was sung during the proclamation of the Azad Hind Government and inspired freedom fighters across every phase of the struggle.
Highlighting its political journey in Tripura, the minister said that “Vande Mataram” was never sung in the state assembly before 2018 due to political reasons. “Since 2018, every session begins with this song, and every member pays tribute. It reflects a true revival of national spirit,” he added.
Addressing the youth, Nath emphasized the song’s relevance in today’s fragmented society. “At a time when language, religion, and regional divisions persist, ‘Vande Mataram’ reminds us that we are one. The 150th anniversary will carry this message of unity to every corner of the country,” he said.
