Agartala, August 01, 2025. Planning and Statistics Minister Bikash Debbarma on Friday chaired a high-level review meeting at the District Magistrate’s office in West Tripura district. Minister Debbarma commended the district’s exceptional performance in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Debbarma was accompanied by Special Secretary Abhishek Chandra, DM Vishal Kumar, and key representatives from the Department of Economics and Statistics (DES), spotlighted West Tripura’s progress under NITI Aayog’s regional SDG index.

West Tripura recently secured a ‘Front Runner’ status in Northeast India, with an impressive composite SDG score of 77.64 for the year 2023–24. The district’s achievements span across several key goals such as Zero Hunger (SDG-2), Sustainable Cities (SDG-11), Responsible Consumption (SDG-12), Climate Action (SDG-13), and Life on Land (SDG-15).

“Tripura is on a transformative path, setting benchmarks in sustainable development,” said Minister Debbarma. “West Tripura’s model of integrated governance, transparency, and innovation reflects the strength of collective efforts. We aim to achieve all 17 SDGs by 2030 with active public engagement and inter-departmental coordination.”

The district’s economic trajectory also remains strong, with a consistent annual growth rate of 8% since 2018 and a reported District Domestic Product (DDP) of ₹2.20 lakh crore. DES officials highlighted ongoing efforts in data collection from 148 rural and 22 urban markets, forming the basis for GSDP estimates and inflation monitoring.

To further enhance data accessibility, authorities are working on systems that will enable real-time dissemination of market pricing information through SMS alerts and online platforms—empowering local bodies to monitor and manage prices effectively.

A major milestone discussed was the launch of a unified data portal by the Planning Department, aimed at integrating data from 25 departments at the district level. A pilot initiative in West Tripura, focused on statistical innovation and data interoperability, is set to be expanded statewide.

The 80th round of the National Sample Survey, underway since January 2025, is collecting household-level socio-economic data with grassroots support from panchayat and block officials. Preparations are also in progress for the upcoming 2027 Population Census and the 8th Economic Census, which will comprehensively document non-agricultural establishments at the gram panchayat level.

DES has recently released several key documents, including the 2024–25 District Domestic Product Report, the 2023–24 Economic Review, an Environmental Compendium, and detailed pricing reports for meat and related products.
