Agartala, September 20, 2025: Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday informed the Assembly that a total of Rs. 52 crore has been spent for the redevelopment of the Mata Tripurasundari Temple premises, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit on September 22, the first day of Navratri.

Chowdhury said that the project cost included Rs. 17 crore from the state exchequer, while the remaining amount was provided by the central government. He added that the Prime Minister will inaugurate the redeveloped Matabari complex during his visit.

Participating in a discussion on a Private Member Resolution moved by MLA Dipak Majumder, the minister expressed confidence that the Prime Minister’s visit would “showcase Matabari on the global tourism map” and significantly boost tourist footfall at one of Tripura’s most revered Shakti Peethas.

Gomati District Magistrate Rinku Lather said the redevelopment project, implemented by the Tourism Department, has introduced several modern facilities while retaining the temple’s traditional sanctity. The new three-floor structure includes stalls for traders, rooms for shoes and Prasad distribution, a priest’s room, museum, meditation hall, and a uniquely designed terrace shaped like a turtle. Special arrangements such as lifts for the elderly and divyangjans have also been installed.

“The redeveloped Matabari complex reflects both devotion and development, ensuring convenience for lakhs of pilgrims,” officials noted.

With the Prime Minister’s visit approaching, final preparations and security arrangements are in full swing around the temple premises. A large turnout is expected to welcome him during his road journey from the helipad to the temple.

On the auspicious occasion of Navratri, Prime Minister Modi will also offer prayers at the temple in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and other dignitaries.
