The Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today stressed on state government’s commitment to ensure that farmers welfare is effectively promoted through various cooperative movements and flagship programmes, including piggery, dairy & poultry farming.
He asserted the same, while laying the foundation stone of a prestigious project – ‘All Garo Hills Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited’ at Babadam, West Garo Hills district.
The concerned project will be constructed at a total cost of Rs 4.44 Crores with Rs 3.20 Crores been funded by the Meghalaya Government. While, the remaining fund remaining fund amount of Rs 1.14 Crores will be mobilised from the Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI) cluster.
It aims to support various cooperative societies, with an intent to implement piggery, dairy & poultry farming across the northeastern state of Meghalaya.
The apex level cooperative society will facilitate training and livelihood programmes, including a processing and packaging unit, thereby supporting to maintain a sustainable future for the farmers of Garo Hills.
“Our government has initiated various programmes to promote farmers welfare. The cooperative movement is amongst one such initiative that aims to leverage income generation amongst the society,” – stated the Meghalaya CM Sangma.
The CM further announced that concerned cooperative society will promote livelihood promotion and ensure training, hand-holding and marketing linkage programmes for the farmers.
While addressing the gathering, CM Sangma stated that a premier paramedical institute amounting to Rs 280 Crores will also be established at Babadam which is at the final stage of consideration by the Central government.
