In a major operation against insurgency activities, a combined team of 16 Assam Rifles and commando unit of Thoubal recently apprehended two cadres of the outlawed group – PREPAK (PRO) from Thoubal and Imphal East.
Acting on a tip-off about the presence of a PREPAK (PRO) cadre, a team of commando unit Thoubal and the paramilitary troop launched a joint operation and nabbed the offenders.
Meanwhile, the team apprehended the cadre, identified as – Md Sanajaoba, a resident of Urup Awang Leikai in Imphal East.
Upon questioning, Sanajaoba revealed that Sanajaoba alongwith another PREPAK (PRO) cadre namely – Oinam Amitkumar Singh hailing from Top Khongnang Makhong in Imphal East carried-out the IED blast at Lilong Ushoipokpi on January 5; under the instruction of PREPAK (PRO) chairman – S Paliba; informed the police reports.
The combined team also apprehended Oinam Amitkumar alias Naobi from his residence at Top Khongnang Makhong.
Meanwhile, the team confiscated three mobile phones and a sum of Rs 35,000 from his possession. The apprehended individuals along with the seized items were handed-over to the Lilong police station. A case has also been filed against the perpetrators under FIR 02(01)2022 LIL PS u/s 302/307/326/34 IPC, 3/4 Explo. Subs. Act & 16/20 UA (P) Act.
