Agartala, November 08, 2022: A shocking incident of killing a 20-year old woman by her husband and brother-in-law has been reported at Tripura’s Parimal Chowmuhani Bridge area under Bishalgarh sub-division in Sepahijala district on Tuesday morning. The deceased is identified as Monty Debnath (20).
She was left wounded physically on the bed with flames by her husband and brother-in-law assuming that the death is certain. Smelling something burning, two neighbours came forward and found that the housewife was still breathing her last. Wasting no time, they hired a vehicle and took her to GBP hospital here in Agartala city, but she fell on the lap of death on the way to the hospital as her condition was seriously critical.
The accusation of killing the 20-year old woman was aimed at her husband Chandan Debnath (28), brother-in-law Gouranga Debnath (24) and father-in-law Gitish Debnath (57).
It is learned that Chandan of Parimal Chowmuhani area has socially married Monty of Manikyanagar under Kalamchoura police station about three years back. At the time of marriage, according to the demands of the groom’s side, the bride’s family settled all the cash, gold and wooden furniture. After the marriage, the newly married couple and the family passed well for a few months. Gradually, turmoil started and after a year and a half, Monty gave birth to a child. A dark shadow descends on the forehead of housewife Monty. The alcoholic husband often pressured Monty to bring more money from his father’s house. Father Kajal Debnath gave Rs 60 thousand in 2-3 phases thinking of daughter’s happiness.
Thereafter, the family spent days well for a while, but evil forces did not leave Monty’s fate. Monty’s family members alleged that the brother-in-law Gouranga used to tease her daily. In the absence of her husband, Gauranga used to propose to his sister-in-law at various times. When Monty tells her husband about this, the couple was found to be getting in more extreme turmoil. Husband Chandan used to fight almost every night for his wife Monty to spend the night with younger brother Gouranga. The brother-in-law took the opportunity to influence his brother.
For the past two weeks, Monty, the housewife, had been fighting for self-defence against her husband and brother-in-law. Failing to bear the pain at her husband’s house, she decided to leave for her father’s house with the child. The night before leaving, her husband and brother-in-law tied her to the bed and set on fire.
Meanwhile, after the post-mortem at GBP Hospital, the burnt body of the deceased woman was handed over to the people of her father’s house.
When contacted with Bishalgarh Women’s police station, a police official informed Northeast Today that the police station staff has reached at the spot of the incident and investigation is underway. The family of the deceased woman is yet to register a case with the police station, she added. However the deceased’s father raised a finger against the accused husband, brother-in-law and father-in-law.
On the other hand, the deceased’s husband and brother-in-law fled from the GBP hospital in Agartala city finding that she died.
It is noteworthy to mention here that the charred body of a lady teacher was recovered from Rangamura in Mohanpur sub-division under West Tripura district in March, 2022. She was raped and burnt alive. Police arrested one Sourav Paul, who is a driver by profession. Later, police remained tight-lipped over the incident.
