The recently concluded 3rd North East Games 2024 saw Manipur asserting its dominance in northeastern sports, clinching the title of Overall Champion with a remarkable tally of 130 medals.
Nagaland and Assam followed closely, securing the 1st and 2nd runner-up positions, respectively, in a display of outstanding sportsmanship and skill.
Reportedly, Manipur’s athletes showcased unparalleled determination and skill throughout the event, securing 52 Gold, 38 Silver, and 40 Bronze medals, reaffirming their status as the powerhouse of northeastern sports.
Host state Nagaland, with an impressive performance, claimed the 1st runner-up position, securing 134 medals, while Assam displayed commendable resilience to secure the 3rd position with 139 medals, as informed.
In addition to the medal tally, special recognitions were awarded to outstanding individuals and states for their exemplary contributions to the games.
Sikkim reportedly received the Fair Play Award for demonstrating the highest standards of sportsmanship, while Tripura was honored with the Spirit of Olympic Award for embodying values of unity and excellence.
Notably, Mr. Venuzo Dawhuo of Nagaland was awarded the Outstanding Sportsman Award for his historic achievement of winning gold medals in two different sports disciplines – shot put, discus throw in athletics, and belt wrestling in the 100+ category.
Similarly, Ms. Tsuchoi. T of Nagaland received the Outstanding Sportswoman Award for her exceptional athleticism and versatility, winning four gold medals in athletics.
Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio expressed his delight at Nagaland’s best-ever performance, extending appreciation to all participating states and stakeholders.
Manipur CM Biren Singh congratulated Team Manipur for upholding the state’s sporting legacy and uplifting the spirits of its people with pride.
As the 3rd North East Games 2024 came to a close, Nagaland Olympic Association extended heartfelt congratulations to all participating states for their exemplary sportsmanship and commitment to excellence, as reported.
