Agartala, August 09, 2024: In a courageous act of vigilance, two alert BSF Mahila Praharis foiled a major smuggling attempt along the Indo-Bangladesh border in the Kamlasagar area of West Tripura on the night of August 8-9, 2024. The Mahila Praharis, deployed in a night ambush, noticed suspicious movement near the border fence and quickly alerted nearby troops, intensifying surveillance in the area.

The Mahila Praharis soon observed a group of 30-40 miscreants, armed with bamboo sticks and sharp-edged weapons, approaching the border from both sides. The group was attempting to smuggle contraband, including sugar, across the border.

Despite the clear danger, the two Mahila Constables confronted the miscreants, who responded aggressively, attempting to encircle the officers and pelting them with stones. Demonstrating exceptional courage and composure, the constables held their ground and fired a round from their pump-action gun, successfully deterring the attackers.

Reinforcements arrived swiftly, forcing the miscreants to retreat and abandon their contraband. A significant haul of sugar and 16 kilograms of ganja was recovered from the scene.

This incident underscores the dedication and bravery of BSF Mahila Praharis in safeguarding India’s borders. IG Tripura Frontier, Piyush Purushottam Das, IPS, commended the heroic actions of the Mahila Constables, reiterating the BSF’s commitment to preventing trans-border crimes. Currently, more than 800 Mahila Praharis are stationed in Tripura, exemplifying the strength and capability of women in border security operations.
