Gangtok, September 5: In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, Sikkim Police apprehended Jishan Raja, a 22-year-old meat and fish seller, at the Rangpo checkpost. Raja, a resident of Bihar, was found in possession of a pistol, live and fired bullets, and a cache of drugs, including 272 tablets of the banned substance Spasmoproxyvan.
The arrest underscores growing concerns over illegal arms and drug trafficking in the state, with authorities vowing to continue their crackdown on such activities.
In an unrelated case, Sikkim Police are investigating a disturbing case of sexual assault in the Soreng district. A complaint was filed on August 30 against a stepfather accused of repeatedly assaulting his 9-year-old stepdaughter.
The victim was brought to the Soreng Community Health Center, where medical professionals confirmed the history of abuse. An FIR (No. 21/2024) was promptly registered under Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012.
Both incidents have sparked concern, with law enforcement intensifying efforts to curb crime and protect vulnerable individuals in the state.
