Guwahati, Nov 7: Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan has urged the governments of Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh to accelerate the implementation of border agreements aimed at resolving long-standing territorial disputes. The appeal was made during a review meeting held on Tuesday to assess the progress of agreements signed between Assam-Meghalaya in March 2022 and Assam-Arunachal Pradesh in April 2023.
Mohan underscored the need to complete survey work for six disputed areas along the Assam-Meghalaya border—Tarabari, Gizang, Hahim, Baklapara, Khanapara-Pillangkata, and Ratacherra—within the next six months. He also called for the completion of surveys for 38 villages along the Assam-Arunachal border within the same timeframe.
In addition, the Home Secretary emphasized the importance of activating Regional Committees to finalize boundary issues in 49 villages along the Assam-Arunachal border, with a target date of April 19, 2025, for completion.
Mohan expressed satisfaction with the resolution of the Hahim border dispute between Assam and Meghalaya, instructing that the installation of boundary pillars in the area be completed by December 2024. He also recommended the prompt erection of boundary pillars in Kamengabari and Bhalukpung areas along the Assam-Arunachal border, where pilot surveys have already been conducted.
