Guwahati, Dec 11: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has distributed scholarships, bicycles, and scooters to more than 4 lakh students as part of the state’s “12 Days of Development” initiative, aimed at encouraging academic excellence and enhancing educational access.
At a ceremony in Guwahati, Sarma awarded cash prizes to 26,969 students under the Anundoram Borooah Merit Scholarship for securing 75% or more in the HSLC exams. Additionally, 323,640 bicycles were provided to Class IX students through the Chief Minister’s Special Scheme, aimed at supporting their education.
As part of the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award under the Pragyan Bharti Scheme, 48,673 scooters were distributed to female students who achieved first division in higher secondary exams, and to male students who scored 75% or higher.
In his address, Sarma congratulated the students and encouraged them to engage in national programs like Skill India, Digital India, and Start-up India, while also acknowledging the contributions of Dr. Banikanta Kakati and Anundoram Borooah in shaping Assam’s education system.
