Guwahati, Jan 17: Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia is all set to take over as the new president of the Assam Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He emerged as the sole nominee for the position by Thursday, the last day for filing nominations.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that the official announcement of Saikia’s appointment will be made on Friday.

A former national general secretary of the BJP, Saikia is currently serving his second term as the Member of Parliament from the Darrang-Udalguri (previously Mangaldai) constituency.
