16th Finance Commission Delegation Arrives in Tripura, Visits Rural Panchayat

Agartala, January 30, 2025: A 12-member delegation of the 16th Finance Commission, led by Chairman Dr. Arvind Panagariya arrived in Tripura on Wednesday to assess the state’s financial and developmental framework. The delegation received a warm welcome at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala before heading to Paschim Majlishpur Gram Panchayat in Jirania block, West Tripura district.

Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Director of Panchayat and Land Revenue Department, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Jirania accompanied the delegation during the visit.

Highlighting the significance of the visit, an official stated, “The Finance Commission’s assessment will play a crucial role in determining the state’s financial allocations and development priorities.”

The delegation includes key officials such as members A.N. Jha, Annie George Mathew, Dr. Manoj Panda, Somyakanti Ghosh, Secretary Hrithik Pandey, Joint Secretary Rahul Jain, Director K. Balaji, Joint Director Kumar Vivek, Deputy Director Sandeep Kumar, PPS Meena Mahendu, and Cashier Rajesh Kumar Sharma.

During their stay, the Finance Commission representatives are scheduled to hold high-level meetings with top administrative officials. Sources indicate that their discussions will focus on fiscal policies, resource allocation, and financial planning for Tripura.

The delegation is expected to conclude its visit and depart from the state on February 1.
